Review:

WOW! - with capital letters and an exclamation point is one word to describe Nightshade. Fast-paced, gripping and breath-taking are the other three. But there are more. I just suck at vocabulary. That said, I totally x10 enjoyed every second of this book. I lurved the characters, the storyline... I actually feel like jumping Andrea Cremer right now and yell "I lurve you, Andrea!" But that would probably creep her out. (>o<)

I love Andrea's take on the world of werewolves. It's new, exciting and the mystery that surrounds it will make you unable to put the book down. One thing I like about Nightshade is that it is full of 'happenings.' Once you think the good part has ended, you'll be surprised to know that there are more. It gives you so many reasons to continue reading it.

I guess the only two things I'm not quite sure if I should like in this book are; Shay's lack of trust with Calla; and Calla's inability to control herself from being sucked  into Ren and Shay's charms. It's apparent that Shay trusts Calla. So what am I complaining about? There's this one part where Flynn said something to Shay about Calla. I don't know if it's just me and it's just that one part but I felt almost appalled when Shay believed it. I wanted to kick the puppy out of him for it. But since I am totally crushing on Shay, I forgive him (he has totally cute eyebrows!). As for the latter, I don't like how Calla indulges to in an intimate moment with Shay and the next, she's making out with Ren. Literally. She doesn't like having intimate moments with either two for what I consider valid reasons but oh, she also likes it. But then again, I can't blame her *giggles*.

Other than that, the rest of the book is just brilliant. The fact that it evoked so many emotions from me is something. I got frustrated, excited, annoyed, giddy, nervous, I smiled, I frowned- whew. Nightshade is that thing you call 'a roller coaster ride of emotions.'

Did I also mention how I lurve the characters!? If Ren was a character from a different book, I would've fallen for him. He's that cocky hot guy with depth every hot-fictional-character-addicted girl would fall for. Too bad for him, Andrea created Shay in the same book as he is in. Shay gives me the impression of a boy you normally see sitting beside the window of your classroom. Or you don't normally see because he's not exactly noticeable. I like how Calla seems to have the upper hand on whatever kind of relationship they have. I also like Bryn and Ansel, and Mason and Neville. I'm not into boy/boy relationship but I appreciate them so much. I kind of adore the two boys as much as I adore Shay, really.

About the Author:

Andrea Cremer spent her childhood daydreaming and roaming the forests and lakeshores of Northern Wisconsin. She now lives in Minnesota, but she thinks of her homeland as the “Canadian Shield” rather than the Midwest.

Andrea has always loved writing and has never stopped writing, but she only recently plunged into the deep end of the pool that is professional writing. When she’s not writing, Andrea teaches history at a very nice liberal arts college in St. Paul.

In the little spare time she can find, Andrea stares up at trees, rescues infant rabbits from predatory cats, and invents names for pug puppies with her husband. She has an unfortunate tendency to spill things – white carpets beware!

Her debut novel, NIGHTSHADE, the first of a YA fantasy series, will be published in fall 2010 by Penguin (Philomel).

I'm so excited to read Nightshade. Your review is just one of many positive ones that I've read, and since I haven't read many books centered on werewolves, I'm very curious about this one.

Calla is a lucky girl, isn't she? I have to say I'm more Team Ren than Shay ;) Thanks for the review!

I LOVE the covers of this book and Wolfsbane. I'm hoping to see them sit on my shelf very soon:) I haven't read Nightshade, so I can't choose a side yet but have a feeling I might be Team Shay:)
