Teaser Tuesday (6)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title, and author too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

"A bird's wing, comrades," he said, "is an organ of propulsion and not of manipulation. It should therefore be regarded as a leg. The distinguishing mark of man is the HAND, the instrument with which he does all his mischief."
(Animal Farm, George Orwell, p15)

When the downtrodden beasts of Manor Farm oust their drunken human master and take over management of the land, all are awash in collectivist zeal. Everyone willingly works overtime, productivity soars, and for one brief, glorious season, every belly is full. The animals' Seven Commandment credo is painted in big white letters on the barn. All animals are equal. No animal shall drink alcohol, wear clothes, sleep in a bed, or kill a fellow four-footed creature. Those that go upon four legs or wings are friends and the two-legged are, by definition, the enemy. Too soon, however, the pigs, who have styled themselves leaders by virtue of their intelligence, succumb to the temptations of privilege and power. - Amazon's review.

After I'm done with Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Sausages, somehow it seems fit to start reading this classic by George Orwell. It also the first classic book I read this year. I actually planning to use this as my first book for my Wordsworth Classics Reading Challenge 2011, but when I browse Wordsworth, they don't have Orwell's in their list. What? I feel cheated :(

Anyway, while you're here, don't forget to enter our giveaway HERE.

It's a good read! I simply love the characters Benjamin and Boxer... and the symbolism with the Russian Rev is amazing. Orwell is so talented!
